O P E N

The word "Open" reminds me of spacious atmosphere and open spaces. A space could made spacious not only through spatial arrangement but also through the materiality. In this project, I want to focus on the use of glass to create a see-through effect that could actually make a space looks wider from both the interior and exterior. The sense of not being enclosed could also be experienced through the use of glass wall.

This project was also inspired by the terrace fields back in my home country with spacious planes and spaces opened to the sky. I am always eager to explore natural and traditional elements, especially those that are related to my home country and and where I am from. This is also my “own street” in designing that I always try my best to incorporate “my local” elements with the “global”.

The formal typology of the terrace field allows me to explore how wide planes could act not only as floor but also be elevated to act as stairs, thus create a sense of spaciousness ad openness. This effect could also be experienced in elevation, in which the glass walls are tilted, to depict the sense of the open terrace fields to the sky, that wherever one is standing, that person can still be seen from other levels above or below.
