THE STATEMENT

My passion to pursue architecture stems from my eagerness to understand fully the intricacies of the art and science behind this field. Hence, I am especially interested in biomimicry architecture with aesthetic forms that require high logicality in their modelling and fabrication.
The 68-level Bitexco Tower, designed by an American architectural firm, impressed me with its tapering form, simulating a lotus bud - the Vietnamese national flower. The contemporary glass façade gives the Bitexco an innovative and luxurious outlook. The Skydeck of the Bitexco, inspired by the leaf of the lotus, located a third down from the top helps to balance the composition of the tower. Its formal typology of a tapering tower turns the whole building into a superstructure that could withstand any weather conditions whilst generating interior spaces that are big enough to be occupied for various purposes. With a bulge base, the building gives its public visitors a spacious commercial area with cafes, stores and cinema on the first three levels. The Bitexco is the biomimicry architecture which has the simple interior layout yet impressive external framing structure that I have recently experienced.
I wish for a chance to visit Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia with my immense interest towards biomimicry architecture. The interior columns which mimic the shape of the tree branches attract me with its sustainable structure of the semi-arc typology. The folds within the Gothic-style also ignited my curiosity towards this uncompleted basilica.
Besides biomimicry architecture, my enthusiasm also falls upon green architectural designs, which prompted me to look at the Vietnamese architect Vo Trong Nghia. His buildings are not only environmentally friendly but also sustainable. For instance, the Roc Von Restaurant uses bamboo, which is inexpensive, naturally durable and environmentally friendly to create sustainable structures of columns and ceilings but still maintain fully the overall aesthetic quality of the building. I am fascinated by his concept of taking full advantage of any available natural sources, especially the bamboo trees with highly sustainable structure, yet very economical, consequently the efficiency of each construction could be maximised. Vo Trong Nghia shows me that being an architect is not just about designing highly aesthetic architectures but also being an economist and an environmentalist.

The MSA surely has inherited all the quintessence from the rich history of its city that makes the school not only prestigious for its speciality in architecture but also rich in culture. Having the opportunity to pursue the top class education here would equip me with substantial knowledge in both science and art that allows me not only to sustain my passion for architecture but also to explore to the deepest of the ever-developing world of design and devoting my best potentials for this profession.
