LIQUEFIED
I am interested in exploring water's effects on the human face and form. I have observed within my own work, that water distorts what we see. The way light travels through this transparent liquid manipulates shape and form. However, I believe it could also represent a distortion of emotions - seeing water on a face conjuring up so many questions. It is a source of life, but it can also be deadly. With their face submerged in water, can the subject communicate, breathe or feel? What are the sensations being felt? Are they refreshed and energised, or trapped and panicked?
Through these experiments, liquid was recorded with different techniques including brushstrokes, detailed painting and marks created using palette knife. Each technique shows different intention in visualising a transparent element as well as depicting the distortion of emotions.
